Action: Hard Target

Who doesn't like a good Van Damme movie?

Simple story line about a "company" that sets up manhunts for the rich. One of the hunted had a daughter who came looking for him and soon found herself seeking revenge with the Damme.
Tons of action of course, but I think he could have used more of his fighting skills for that is what he is known for and less guns. The times he did throw a punch or kick was just on a dumb goon who didn't fight back and was a one hit KO. But then again if you want a classic fighting Van Damme movie check out "Kick boxer" (not on Netflix).
Check this out if you are looking for a good ole 90's action film.

Comedy: Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

When I first started this movie I didn't expect much. It just looked like another "Scary Movie" movie with extremely sub-par acting, missing storyline, and no actual funny parts, but I was joyfully mistaken. This horror comedy is actually, well, comedic.

Tucker & Dale, two farm boys are mistakenly perceived as psychotic killers deep in the woods who are killing the group of college friends one by one, although they never actually harm anyone, or could even hurt a fly for that matter.

This is a very short film but is full with many laughs.

The Reader Recommends?

Want me to make a personal recomendation? Just let me know what you like such as genre or actor/actress and I will dig into my recently watched list to see what I can pull out.

Action: 9th Company

Finally! A movie recomendation, and a GOOD one at that.

The movie "9th Company" is a Russion film (sub-titled) based on a true story and I can honestly say that it easily rivals "Blackhawk Down" if you found that to be an outstanding movie as well. The premises are somewhat similar, a military company gets stranded behind enemy lines with no support. The movie does a good job getting you connected to the characters and to feel the bond between the group of friends.
Gun fights a PLENTY!
There is no lack of action in the second half of the movie and they did a good job getting the camera right into it.

This movie might be overlooked by most people since it may only show up under foreign films but one should definitely not miss out on this one.

IW Quote:
"After barely surviving an intensely grueling boot camp in Uzbekistan, an eclectic group of recently enlisted Soviet soldiers ships off to fight in Afghanistan, where they must endure hellish conditions and extremely dangerous Mujahideen forces. Based on a true story from the 1980s, this rousing Russian war film about camaraderie and heroism stars Aleksey Chadov, Artur Smolyaninov and Konstantin Kryukov."

Comedy: Workaholics

My next recommendation is for another TV show. I know, i know.. 2 posts into my "movie" blog and I have recommended 2 tv series but just bare with me.

This recommendation is for Workaholics which is aimed primarily towards the younger crowd. This one is about 3 roomates/co-workers and some of the crazy things that happen during their daily lives. The comedy comes from their personalities and how they react to certain situations and the pranks they pull on each other and others, no punch-lines and laugh tracks.

I find comedy very scarce on Netflix so if you need a quick fix, this is will do fine.

Wikipedia Quote:
"The three main characters, Blake, Adam, and Anders, were roommates in college, and continue to share a house together as they transition into adulthood. The show's action is generally confined to the main characters' house and their workplace, a cubicle the three of them share at a telemarketing company called TelAmeriCorp."

Sci-Fi: Firefly/Serenity

My first recommendation will be for the Firefly/Serenity Series. There are 15 episodes total, the first and last 'episodes' can be considered movies since they are over 90 minutes.

This sci-fi series is about a rag-tag group on a transport space ship that picks up (normally illegal) jobs from different planets. All transactions go bad and mostly end up in gun fights. Lots of action and witty comedy in this one. I especially recommend this to Star Trek fans or anyone looking for a good sci-fi shootout.

Description from Wikipedia:
"The series is set in the year 2517, after the arrival of humans in a new star system, and follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship. The ensemble cast portrays the nine characters who live on Serenity. Whedon pitched the show as "nine people looking into the blackness of space and seeing nine different things". The show explores the lives of some people who fought on the losing side of a civil war and others who now make a living on the outskirts of society, as part of the pioneer culture that exists on the fringes of their star system. In addition, it is a future where the only two surviving superpowers, the United States and China, fused to form the central federal government, called the Alliance, resulting in the fusion of the two cultures. According to Whedon's vision, 'nothing will change in the future: technology will advance, but we will still have the same political, moral, and ethical problems as today'."

Enjoy!

Welcome to my New Blog

I have find myself everyday, looking through Netflix's instant movie database for something interesting to watch. This can be a painful waste of time and in some cases come up short. Here I will update my blog with interesting movies to watch instantly, hopefully once or twice everyday. I will eliminate the sifting through titles, ratings, and genres for you and recommend the best of what I find with a short description and review.

Enjoy!
